Opportunities for fun fall activities such as corn mazes, marsh outings and camping all exist within minutes from the city of Winnipeg.

Autumn is a short season, but when summer activities are over, Manitoba offers fun fall activities for kids that can only be enjoyed this time of year. Outings at a corn maze, viewing hundreds of ducks and geese at a marsh preparing for their fall flight or enjoying a bit of camping in autumn are some of the opportunities Manitoba offers which are located in close proximity to Winnipeg.

Corn Mazes in Manitoba

  • A Maze in Corn is located south of Winnipeg down St. Mary's road, approximately ten minutes form the Perimeter Hwy. The maze is open from August throughout October and is fun and challenging both during the day and at night with flashlights. There is also a petting zoo, a large pyramid of bales for kids to climb on, pony rides, hayrides, food concession and a barn full of pumpkins available for purchase.

  • Boonstra Farms has a corn maze that opens in September and is located on Hwy 67 approximately 15 km north of the Perimeter Hwy. Besides the ten acre corn maze, there is a smaller 1 acre maze made with children in mind. Also offered are a petting zoo, hayrides, pyramid of bales and a food concession.
Canadian Geese and Ducks at Oak Hammock Marsh

Starting Labour Day Weekend, and throughout September and October, there are activities at Oak Hammock Marsh Interpretive Center themed around the geese and ducks preparing for flight. Check their website for specific information. Activities include wagon rides, learning how to count large groups of birds, making bird feeders, and learning how birds can use the stars to help them get to their destination. The Marsh is located between Hwy 7 and Hwy 8, off Hwy 67.

Fall Camping at Birds Hill Provincial Park

Camping in the fall surround by crunchy colorful leaves can be quite fun. The campground is quieter than in summer, which offers plenty of opportunities for spotting wildlife. Make an activity of tracking the animal and bird prints in the sand down by the beach that are usually not as clearly seen during the busier months.

For younger bike riders, a bonus is the trails are less busy. There are two playground structures in the campground and one by the beach for kids to play on. Camping is available until Thanksgiving and the Manitoba Provincial Park website can be checked to see until when full services are offered. The campground store remains open, so grab a hot chocolate after a hike. The park's main entrance is located north down Hwy 59.

Whether getting lost in a corn maze, saying goodbye to the ducks and geese at the marsh preparing for their flight to a warmer climate, or trying out some fall camping at a provincial park, all of these are places located close to Winnipeg and sure to be fun fall activities for kids in Manitoba.
