Manitoba Offers Fun and Scary Activities for Adults and Children

Kids and accompanying adults will both be entertained by the Halloween events and activities offered within Winnipeg and the close surrounding area just outside the city.

Fall is a fun season in Manitoba, and with the fall time comes Halloween. The month of October offers plenty of opportunities to celebrate the occasion. Whether just planning fun family time or if getting a good scare is on the agenda, there are many events and activities to help plan the outing.

Boo at the Zoo

Safeway Boo at the Zoo usually runs about the middle to the end of October. The Assiniboine Zoo, located on Assiniboine Drive, runs off Corydon Avenue near Roblin Blvd. Check the website for detailed information. The theme changes yearly, this year being Mission Big Foot. Rides are offered for kids and dressing up is encouraged. Tickets are available at the entrance, but consider buying tickets in advance at Safeway for this sometimes sold out event.

Birds Hill Provincial Park's Halloween at the Hill

Every year, Birds Hill Park, located north down Hwy 59, hosts Halloween at the Hill. It is a one day, free, interpretive event in October. Face painting, ghost stories, campfire, hay rides, and a ghost walk are among the activities offered. Dress up, bring a flashlight and meet at the Birds Hill Park Ranch, located down North Drive and off of Nimowin Road. Contact the park for date and time.

Halloween Activities at Oak Hammock Marsh Interpretive Centre

Oak Hammock Marsh, located between Hwy 7 and Hwy 8 north of Winnipeg, hosts Halloween activities, this year a Halloween party. For this family event dress up and enjoy a costume parade, scavenger hunts, pumpkin carving, stories, presentations and face painting. The Haunted Forest at a Maze in Corn

A Maze in Corn offers The Haunted Forest, in October. Definitely this outing is geared for adults and older kids. If considering taking a younger child, then it would be better to attend during the daylight hours. A Maze in Corn, located south of Winnipeg, down St. Mary's road, offers some pictures of the Haunted Forest, as well prices, dates and times on their website.

Murray's Maze at Boonstra Farms

Boonstra Farms, located in Stonewall Manitoba, Offers a Halloween Maze, Murray’s Maze, in October. The daytime is better for families with young children. To get really spooked go after dark. Offered also is the headless horseman hayride. Pictures of the tower of terror, other offerings and specific dates and times can be viewed on their website.

Lower Fort Garry Ghost Tours

Lower Fort Gary National Historic Site of Canada, north down Hwy 9, near Selkirk Manitoba, offers Ghost Tours in October. This is a candlelit tour, sure to be spooky, and including hot chocolate, stories and a bonfire. Contact Lower Fort Garry for reservations and exact starting time.

Winnipeg and the surrounding area offer many fun and scary activities for adults and children. Whether celebrating with a theme event at Boo at the Zoo, a Halloween party at Oak Hammock Marsh, a good scare on a ghost walk at A Maze in Corn, Boonstra Farms, Birds Hill Park, or a spooky candlelit view of history at Lower Fort Garry, fun and a few good scares are sure to be offered.
