Outdoor Spring Activities for Your ChildrenIdeas to Enjoy Spring Together as a Family
After a long winter of staying inside your home, you can now spend quality time together as a family outside enjoying the sites and sounds of spring.
Your family has had a long winter staying indoors. Now that the weather is beautiful, you may be wanting to spend more time outside enjoying the great outdoors. Planning family outings are great ways to spend time together either by working in the backyard or visiting a zoo. Springtime can be fun whatever you decide to do. Here are some spring activities your family will enjoy: Go for a Springtime PicnicTake your family to the neighbourhood park and eat lunch outdoors. You can make your picnic fancy by having fruit skewers, open face sandwiches, cupcakes and sparkling grape soda. Visit the Baby Animals at the ZooThe best time to visit a zoo is in the spring. Baby animals are born during the spring months. Since the weather is not overly hot, many animals and their young are more active. Visit a Greenhouse and Pick out PlantsVisit your local greenhouse and have your children pick out a few plants each for a family garden. Have children participate in the planting and care of their own plants throughout the summer. Go for a Nature WalkTake a walk around the neighbourhood and look for signs of new life. Make it fun by taking along magnifying glasses and examine a budding tree or a blade of grass. There are many signs of spring and encourage your children to tell you all the signs they see. Fly a KiteRead the Berenstain Bears: We Like Kites by Stan Berenstain [Random House Children’s Books 2004], with your children then make a family kite. Denise Oliveri gives easy step-by-step instructions for making a homemade kite. Go for a Family Bike RidePrepare your children’s bicycles for their first ride of the season. Before you and your children go for a family ride, speak to your children about bike safety. According to Canada Safety Council “The attitudes you, as a parent, instill in your children from a young age will determine how they will ride for years to come.” Reviewing with your children the rules of the road, turn signalling and helmet use are extremely important for their safety and should be reviewed consistently. Clean the YardGetting everyone out and cleaning the yard will be wonderful exercise for the whole family. Raking, seeding the lawn and cleaning out flowerbeds will teach your children what hard work it is to keep a yard looking beautiful. Gear up for a Yard SaleSpring is the time for the annual spring-cleaning of all the closets. It is the perfect opportunity for children to go through all their toys they do not use anymore and have a yard sale. A nice idea would be for your children to either donate some toys or portions of their money from the sale to a charity of their choice. Spring is the perfect season to go to the zoo, plant a garden or review bicycle safety with your children. Your family will appreciate the work involved in maintaining a yard and benefit from being active. After a long winter of staying inside, now is the time for you and your family to enjoy all sites and sounds spring has to offer.
