Beat the heat this summer with snacks and activities designed to bring on the chill!
It's fun and easy to add a splash of cool refreshment to hot summer days. Spice things up for your kids this summer with cool, whimsical snacks and activities that will keep them focused on summer fun, instead of the sweltering weather. Summer fun's main ingredient is ice cold water. Gather a few other easily-acquired supplies to put these chilly activities into action. Play the Game True, False or Dunk?Chase away the summer boredom blues while brushing up on schoolwork with a game of True, False or Dunk. Prepare several True or False questions based on your child's school studies. For example: Three plus five equals 10 and "Too" can mean "also," etc. Purchase a small children's swimming pool at a local retailer like Walmart and fill will cold water. (Tip: To keep water nice and cold on a hot summer day, add ice cubes.) To play the game, ask the questions to each child participating. If he/she answers correctly, play continues. If the child answers incorrectly, he/she has to jump in the ice cold pool. Have Some Ice but Hold the "Cream"What makes a cold treat on a hot day even better? It's simple: A treat that's fun to eat too! Dust off those ice cube trays to conjure up this simple summer surprise. Fill up the ice cube trays with water as usual, but then add a drop of food coloring in different colors to each ice section. Once set, serve water in clear water glasses with the colorful cubes for a delightful shock. As the ice begins to melt, the water will become tinted the same color for even more kid-friendly fun. Cold Ice CubeDitch the hot potato for a game of Cold Ice Cube. Toss a handful of ice cubes in a Ziploc bag to play. Then, swap the hot potato for the chilly cubes and play this traditional party game like usual. Kids will get a kick out of this new and refreshing twist on an old favorite. Frozen Watermelon ShapesCookie cutters aren't reserved just for cookies anymore. Slice a fresh watermelon into rounds and use summer-themed cookie cutter shapes to cut out whimsical pieces. Pop in the freezer to set, and serve for a cool pick-me-up on a hot day. Good Old-Fashioned Water FightRecycle that children's pool you purchased from True, False or Dunk, and hunker down for a good 'ole water fight. Collect a stash of buckets, water guns, plastic cups and the like, and fill up the pool with cold water. Set the troops loose with the artillery and start tossing and squirting water on one another for some cooling summer fun. Summer fun is certain to be refreshingly satisfying with snacks and activities designed for maximum coolness!
